When PrestaShop is no longer enough: Migration to Bagisto
Is your store suffocating from technical debt? Move your business to the stable Laravel foundation. I offer secure data migration, architectural refactoring, and Bagisto implementation for stores aiming for Enterprise level.
Transformation Process
Why does an Architect choose Laravel?
For years, I specialized in "rescuing" PrestaShop stores. I know this system inside out—its advantages, but also its painful limitations. At some point, every e-commerce company hits a wall: updates become a nightmare (famous 1.6 -> 1.7 -> 9.x migrations), performance drops, and finding a developer willing to work with old code borders on the miraculous.
Bagisto is the answer to these problems. It's not just another closed CMS. It's an ecosystem based on the world's most popular PHP framework—Laravel. Choosing Bagisto means choosing full code control, security, and access to thousands of Laravel developers.
No more "Spaghetti Code"
PrestaShop (especially older versions) is a mix of old PHP, Smarty, and legacy code. Bagisto is pure Laravel: MVC architecture, Repository Pattern, Service Container. The code is testable, readable, and easy to maintain.
Enterprise Scalability
Need to handle 100k products? Bagisto natively supports Elasticsearch/Opensearch. Want to speed up the API? We use Laravel Octane and Swoole. These are technologies standard PrestaShop can only dream of.
Headless & PWA Ready
Bagisto is built with API in mind. We can build a modern frontend in Vue.js or Next.js, separating the visual layer from business logic. This is the standard in modern e-commerce.
Secure Migration from PrestaShop
The biggest fear when changing the store engine is data loss. As Web Berserker, I don't use ready-made, faulty importers. I write dedicated PHP migration scripts (ETL) that map the PrestaShop database structure directly to Eloquent models in Bagisto.
What exactly do we migrate?
- Product Catalog: Features, attributes, variants, photos, stock levels.
- Customers and Addresses: Full user account history including passwords (if possible) or a reset process.
- Order History: Statuses, invoices, notes.
- SEO URLs: I create a 301 redirect map from old PrestaShop links to new Bagisto structures. You won't lose your Google rankings.
Mess in products? Let's implement UnoPIM
Migration is the perfect time for cleanup. If you manage products in Excel, ERP, and the store panel simultaneously—you're wasting time. As part of the Bagisto implementation, I offer installation and configuration of UnoPIM (also based on Laravel).
Data Centralization
One place to edit descriptions, translations, and technical parameters. PIM sends data to the store, Allegro, and other channels.
Data Quality
The system enforces data completeness (e.g., won't release a product without a photo or weight) before sending it to the store.
Dedicated Modules and Integrations
In PrestaShop, creating modules often involves fighting with hooks and overriding the Core. In Bagisto (Laravel), I create dedicated Packages. This allows your store to receive unique functionalities without compromising system stability.
ERP / WMS Integrations
I write efficient connectors that synchronise stock levels and prices in real-time, using Laravel Queues.
Custom Checkout
Modification of the checkout path for specific B2B or B2C requirements without "hacking" the template.
Migration Roadmap
Audit and Planning
Analysis of the PrestaShop database. Selection of modules to be replaced by native Laravel solutions.
Data Mapping
Preparation of ETL scripts. Trial data migration to the development environment. Consistency verification.
Development
Design implementation, Bagisto configuration, programming dedicated functions and integrations.
Switch & SEO
Final data synchronization (delta). DNS switch. Monitoring of 301 redirects and indexing.
FAQ: Bagisto and Migrations
Is Bagisto free like PrestaShop?
Yes, Bagisto is an Open Source project under the MIT license. You only pay for implementation, hosting, and optional premium modules. There are no subscription fees for the engine itself.
Will I lose Google rankings after migration?
No, provided the migration is done correctly. Key is mapping the URL structure or applying 301 redirects for every old link. As Web Berserker, I prioritize SEO during the migration process.
Will my PrestaShop modules work in Bagisto?
Not directly. These are two different technologies. Functionalities provided by PrestaShop modules must be replaced by native Bagisto functions, Laravel packages, or written from scratch. This is an advantage—we get rid of the technical debt of old plugins.
How long does a store migration take?
For a mid-sized store, the process usually takes 4 to 8 weeks. This includes analysis, data mapping, development work, and testing. Enterprise stores with dedicated ERP integrations may require 3-4 months of work.
